Is it true that giving someone the silent treatment amounts to emotional torture if done after a very long and extended period of years and also to give them the silent treatment is like ostrocizing someone? Because then ostricizing is like causing somebody pain and physical pain that is, because it affects a part of the brain that detects pain and therefore it is goes on to be like physical abuse. Anybody ever heard this and can agree with a story? Thanks!

"The Silent Treatment", when prolonged is most definitely Emotional Abuse!
You do feel pain, and you do feel abandoned, depressed, and other negative emotions!
But it is not Physical Abuse.
Just examine the definitions of both kinds of abuse. The answer is there
God’s Speed to you

Also, I would have to agree with you about the fact that women hit more. One thing you have to know though, when a woman hits a man, it doesn’t have the same affect as the other way around.

As far as women emotionally abusing more, I TOTALLY disagree with that. Men just don’t realize when they say something that hurts. Not nearly as much as women do anyway.

Is there a way to break the cycle of abuse from when you were a child now as an out-lashing, "repeating the cycle" adult? Sometimes the offenders don’t even know they have a problem, which makes it more difficult, and on top they have anger (management) issues. My friend wants me to be supportive of him and help him break this cycle…but I cant find any websites on (emotional and physical) abuse as a child or teen and how it effects us as adults…can anyone help? and if you could answer my question too thanks! lol

The largest part of personal psychology, is made up of understanding who we are and how we got this way……..the same is true of abuse cycles…… if you just google ‘break the cycle of abuse’ you will find a lot…….
This has been a huge issue in therapy/psychology for about 30 years….or more………
In a nut shell, some people ;become like however they are raised…….the statistics say about one third of people abused as children, will go on to become abusers…….but two thirds, do not, because they hated it so bad, and would not want to treat anyone this way……
It really effects people from childhood , on issues like self worth, self esteem, feeling loved, the partners they pick are sometimes subconsciously like their abusers, because they want to gain control and love over them that they couldnt get from mom and/or dad……….the emotional pull and push is the strongest., having both feelings about the same person …….because they love the parent, and hate the abuse………and never feel quite loved , accepted, supported, and all those things important in growing for anyone……….
He needs a therapist he can talk to and explore all of this with……..there really isnt anything you can do except be a friend……and supportive………and never put up with any abuse from anyone
I like EFT for removing all the negative, also

If not, why do you think not? Isn’t verbal & emotional abuse just as bad as physical abuse? It can wear a person down just as bad.

I live and work in Ohio. We have specific statutes for verbal intimidation and verbal abuse under our domestic violence ordinance. If a person calls the police and states that they are in fear of their safety due to verbal intimidation or threats, the person is arrested and charged. It literally becomes a "he said, she said" scenario in court, but the court sides with the plaintiff if they state threats were used. So yes, verbal abuse is just as bad as physical abuse and will lead to conviction in a court of law.

I hope this helps and you can find it useful

I have to write an essay on child abuse, and I have to discuss the different forms of abuse. I was wondering if emotional and verbal abuse were the same, I’m thinking that they are not, but I wasn’t entirely sure, hence me asking the question.

Thank You!

Abuse is any behavior that is designed to control and subjugate another human being through the use of fear, humiliation, intimidation, guilt, coercion, manipulation etc. Emotional abuse is any kind of abuse that is emotional rather than physical in nature. It can include anything from verbal abuse and constant criticism to more subtle tactics, such as repeated disapproval or even the refusal to ever be pleased. Verbal abuse is the use of words to cause harm to the person being spoken to. It is difficult to define and may take many forms. Similarly, the harm caused is often difficult to measure. The most commonly understood form is name-calling. Verbal abuse may consist of shouting, insulting, intimidating, threatening, shaming, demeaning, or derogatory language, among other forms of communication
