Dog Training – A Dog’s Nature

Dogs are surprisingly complex creatures.

Estimates about the number of breeds are as high as 800 in Western countries alone. Even given the fact that the difference from one breed to another can be carried to absurd extremes, the variety is astonishing from a human perspective, who have, perhaps, only a dozen ‘breeds’.

Dogs have descended from wolves and began domestic interaction with humans only 10,000 years ago. As a consequence, some dog behaviors will develop regardless of circumstances and some traits are as unique as the human the dog is paired with. Still, a few common traits stand out.

Dogs are predators.

That doesn’t mean they necessarily hunt and attack every passing cat or rat, but it is part of their instinct. They can hear very well in part thanks to precise orientation of their ears. Dogs can pick up a range of sounds and locate the source quickly and with high accuracy.

A dog’s field of vision is higher than that of humans. Their field of view has been estimated from 180-270 degrees, by comparison to a human’s 100-150 degrees, allowing them to oversee the terrain better.

And, of course, they’re famous for their sense of smell. They have 25 times as many scent-receptor cells and they are able to perceive scents 100 million times smaller than humans.

Golden Retrievers, for example, can smell gophers through two feet of packed snow and a foot of frozen earth. And, they’ll dig through it to get to the gopher. That’s predatory behavior.

Another common trait is behavior. Dogs are social animals.

That’s common knowledge, of course, but unfortunately many times ignored. Individuals will often lock their dog away in a garage or pen, or leave them leashed in the yard for long periods. This isolation from contact with humans or other animals can lead to fear and/or aggression. Dogs need companionship in order to develop healthy behavior.

Isolating a dog for brief periods can be a useful training technique. Fear of expulsion from the pack is an effective way of letting the dog know when he was behaving improperly.

But excessive time extent of social interaction with another dog, a human, or even a friendly cat harms the dog’s psychology and leads to unwanted behavior. Even guard dogs should be able to distinguish between external ‘threats’ and members of their own ‘pack’.

Learn How To Use Dog Hair Clippers

First of all you’ll be happy to learn that most dog hair clipper sets come with a dvd on how to properly give your dog a hair cut. That being said, it really isn’t that hard to learn how to use dog hair clippers. I think certain people out there make it seem harder than it is so we’ll be forced to take our pets to expensive groomers. Of course you’re afraid of possibly cutting or nicking our pet, who wouldn’t be, but the way dog clippers are designed make that very difficult to do. Once you get the hang of the clippers you’ll be amazed at just how easy it is to give your dog a really nice hair cut.

Everyone has seen at least a few infomercials on television at some point. Some of the products are really great and some are a work in progress. Your dog can enjoy the same snuggy blanket comfort as we do and it’s not just some cheap as seen on tv blanket. I never suggest buying these asseenontv products from the store though because yes you save on shipping but won’t get the buy 1 get 1 free offers or bonus gifts. A crate helps in housetraining your dog

Here’s why a crate helps in puppy potty training, for a puppy, a crate is the equivalent of a crib. Puppies naturally avoid soiling their bed (the smart critters know they don’t want to sit in it!), so being in the crate encourages them to hold off going for a short while. This natural response makes the crate your best bet when you can’t watch him, even if you’re just in another part of the house. To use the crate, place the puppy in it for short periods, never longer than he can hold himself — never more hours than he is months old, and never more than six hours, period. Let him out when you can watch him. As soon as you open the door, take him to his potty area.

Great Dane Health Concerns

Great Danes have got slower metabolisms. This will cause them to have reduced energy and eat a smaller amount per lb of the canine, in comparison to little dogs. The most severe health problem that the Great Dane is at risk of getting is gastric dilatation-volvulus. This can be a horrible and agonizing problem that impacts male strong chested breeds. It may cause your Great Dane to pass away if not handled right away. Great Danes shouldn’t be permitted to consume considerable amounts of water within a brief period of time. This may cause GDV. Hip dysplasia can also be a huge problem for Great Dane owners.

Keeping Algae Under Control in Your Fish Tank

One of the big problems you can encounter when you have a seaclear fish tank is algae. This can be tough to keep up with and it will take some time to keep it at bay. However, there are things that you can do to keep it under control.

You can’t keep algae from growing, but wiping it off and scraping the fish tank on a regular basis can help. The right lighting can help to avoid algae. Reducing the food can help to keep it away as can reducing the amount of fish you have in the tank.

Add in some predators or even some live plants. This can help you to keep the algae under control. However, nothing will be as good as cleaning out the fish tank on a regular basis for algae control.
