Assignment on Physical Abuse of a Child?
For my assignment I have to write a dialogue that may occur between myself and a child who appears to have been beaten by his mother, but every time I try to write it I feel my character is "leading" the child.
What sort of questions would I ask that wouldn’t traumatise the kid even more than he already would be?
What sort of things would a Five year old be likely to disclose to a child care worker about his mother hitting him?
I work in a child care centre. This assignment is part of the cerificate I need to complete for my qualifications.
In the scenario the child has marks on his legs, neck and a very swollen red ear.
I’m having trouble writing what I would say in response to the child disclosing "Mummy hit me".
Speaking from personal experience, I can tell you that you have to be very careful in asking questions that aren’t leading and this can be difficult to do. Keep to the basic facts, and you note the questions and child’s responses exactly. I try to keep my attitude as though it must have been an accident, but I NEVER say that. I’ll ask, Really? When did that happen? Does it hurt? I can get you some ice to put on it. Did mommy already put ice on it? Did mommy take you to the doctor? What were you guys doing when it happened? Do you remember who else was there? Keep it basic, and factual. Leave further questioning to the experts. In my state, we have an 800 number to call if we hear such a comment from a child, and we are mandated reporters of suspected abuse. We MUST call. I have sat in on the interviews that occur in these situations (sometimes children are uncomfortable talking to a stranger and want someone they know and trust, like their teacher to sit with them), and I can tell you that they are extremely well done. They are never leading and they are very relaxed and non-threatening in their approach. Leave your own questioning to a minimum and contact the experts as quickly as possible.

Does hitting your kids as punishment child physical abuse?
Depends, are you giving them a spank on the bottom or a slap across the face? I don’t believe that a spank on the bottom is considered child abuse. But to hit your child or slap them is.

Is this Verbal/Emotional/Physical Child Abuse?
My dad gets so angry sometimes. Most times. I was late for school one day and he screamed at me for like 20 minutes. And he threw away my iPod which he had no right to do since I bought it with my allowance money that my grandpa gave me. He also threw away my pants simply because he doesn’t like Skinny Jeans. And I also bought those pants with my money. And about a month ago he beat me with a shoe for half-an-hour. He said all I have to do is not get in trouble, since I’m already stupid and can’t get decent grades at school.
Even as a kid my dad was a prick. My granma used to tell stories of him and how he was always so serious.
I don’t think my dad is a bad person. I think he just has poor parenting skills. And my mom just follows whatever he says. The only one I can talk to is maybe my friends. Because the rest of my family live far, far away. In an another country. I want to move there and my dad says he’ll let me. But they said they don’t want me cuz apparently I’m a bad kid. and I will influence their kids. the whole world has gone mad.
omg you poor thing x
is there any chance of you moving somewhere away from him?
Call child services when your in a safe place away from him they will protect you from this…
Does your mum/nan know about it? Can you tell a teacher?
This needs to be sorted asap or it can turn real bad!
My step dad done stuff like that to me, he even threatened me to bury me in the garden alive when i came back from school (i was 12 at the time) I told a teacher in the end coz i couldn’t stop crying and it soon ended once people knew, now he’s not aloud anywhere near me (now 23) which is good but u realy need to tell someone official this cant carry on
Good luck with everything and I really do hope your gonna be safe x

For an english project I need an episode of a TV Show that features Physical Child Abuse. Do you know any?
It cant be that one Full House or Degrassi episode because those were used at examples.
Probably most from Judging Amy

what are some strategies for prevention and early intervention of child abuse, both sexual and physical abuse?
there arent really any stratergies if someone is going to abuse a child. the only thing the child can do is go to someone for help straight away. alot of children being abused dont dare because the man/woman might have said to them if you tell anyone ill kill you or something terrible like that but it is best to tell someone as soon as you can whether its a teacher, family member, or the police. x
