What kind of careers could I pursue that would allow me to fight against child abuse?
I am a college student that is trying to figure out what I want to do with my life after graduation. I already have a little girl who is the love of my life. I am so passionate about working to protect other children from child abuse and punish those who abuse them! I’d like to know if anyone can tell me about any possible careers for someone like me! I know social work is an option, but I really want the power to help these children. any suggestions?
social worker, teacher, counselor, therapist, criminal justice, youth advocate, lawyer, judge…
those are just the few that come to mind right away

Well, maybe you could start an organization. You’d have to have some capital under your belt first, but I know I would donate to a group like that. Or you could join an organization that already exists – maybe as an attorney for them?
One idea would be to run a home for abused children – you could provide counseling, security, and education to them.

I worked for a non-profit organization that put me in a local elementary school to help specified kids that had different emotional/behavior problems. i know i definitely helped the kids manage their issues at school, but i couldn’t prevent any abuse or guide the kids when they were at home, though I did have to report to child protective service workers who had been assigned to one of the families.
so, a CPS worker might be a good choice for you. CPS workers often have to testify in court cases, which can be very beneficial to removing children from inappropriate homes and circumstances (often to different family members’ homes) and can help get their lives on a better path, away from abuse.
