When does corporal punishment cross into physical abuse?

I am wondering what is the difference between corporal punishment and abuse?

If used correctly corporal punishment can achieve the desired affect. It becomes abuse when it is used to often, or not for the right reasons.

The difference is when you beat with the edge of the paddle.

Corporal punishment is more than a spank, a slap, a punch, corporal punishment is something awful like digging a nail underneath ones fingernails or putting someone in an electric chair.

    It’s pretty much synonymous.

    EDIT
And btw…..it’s illegal in over 110 countries worldwide and in many states it’s banned in schools.

UNESCO is urging that all countries make it illegal. There are reasons for this. I’ll let you read them for yourself if you’re interested.

The only way to be 100% safe is to NEVER resort to corporal punishment.

It is not necessary and anyone who has children should be old enough and smart enough to figure out alternative methods.

Anyone who can’t do that should enroll in parenting classes within the hour!

That depends on where one lives and if you are referring to an opinion or the law. Without clouding my answer with my opinion, I will give you what the law says.
In the United States, corporal punishment is defined as not being excessive. That means if it IS excessive, it is abuse. Here is a website stating exactly what the laws for each state are concerning spanking. If it exceeds the law, it’s abuse. The law makes it very clear when it is abuse and when it isn’t.

Obviously there is more to it than this (what you use to spank your child, how hard you do it, how often, etc.), but I think that when you use a method of corporal punishment out of anger, it crosses into abuse.

they can be the same things… but when a teacher carried the punishment through without adding his/her own style to it like an idiot, it is fine. i heard of a teacher once that paddled a kid 34 times in front of the whole classroom!
